AERO 2022: Drones at the service of society

Unmanned aerial vehicles form a separate trade show focus

The unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) segment is a very innovative and fast-growing branch of aviation. At AERO (April 27-30, 2022), exhibitors and operators will provide an insight into the range and performance of drones at the "UAS in government and public services" trade event in Hall A2 on April 27 and 28, 2022.

Unmanned aerial vehicles are already an indispensable part of our lives, and they are becoming increasingly important. Yet they are often not even noticed by the general public. Professional drone operators include not only security agencies such as the police, but also fire departments, the German Federal Agency Technisches Hilfswerk  (THW) and other aid organizations that use drones and thermal imaging cameras, for example, to search for people who have been injured in accidents.

Almost 50 exhibitors, including companies such as Hensoldt, ESG, Swissdrones, Dronivo, Securiton, as well as government and public service organizations such as the DLRG, the Bavarian Red Cross, the Black Forest Mountain Rescue Service, the Baden-Württemberg police, and the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) will be showing a wide range of drones, services for drone operators, and mission examples.

On the first two days of the trade show (April 27/28, 2022), AERO will offer an important platform for the exchange of information between drone operators, manufacturers and authorities with the specialist event "UAS in government and public services" (German: Drohnen im BOS-Einsatz). The event is organized by the Baden-Württemberg Police and the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK). The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Association, UAV DACH, and the CURPAS research network are providing support. In addition to public lectures and discussions, there will also be presentations in the Police Forum, which may only be attended by police officers.

AERO organizers Roland Bosch and Tobias Bretzel explain: "After the successful start in 2019, we are now looking forward to the second, significantly larger, edition at this year's AERO Friedrichshafen. The concept of a trade exhibition and a top-class symposium supported by the trusting and professional cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Police and the BBK is convincing all along the line."

Martin Landgraf, Baden-Württemberg Police: "The Baden-Württemberg Police is very pleased to be back as a strong partner at the second drone specialist event at AERO Friedrichshafen. The focus is on imparting knowledge through top-class expert presentations, the exchange of experience between the BOS authorities and the exchange with exhibitors, and after a two-year break due to the pandemic, this is more important than ever."

The topic of civil defense and disaster control has gained renewed importance, and not only as a result of recent events. In the event of a disaster, drones can quickly support rescue forces and helpers without the need for a large infrastructure.

"The BBK is pleased to be an official partner of one of the leading trade fairs for civil aviation - AERO - for the first time, together with the Baden-Württemberg police. In addition to its own booth, the BBK is co-hosting the symposium ‘UAS in government and public services’. In it, experts from aviation and civil protection will present further developments and current findings from the fields of law, operational tactics, risk management, research and inter-organizational cooperation, among others," says BBK Vice President Dr. Thomas Herzog.
