The e-Genius is a two-seater electric touring motor glider that was developed and built by the University of Stuttgart. Since its maiden flight in 2011, it has been used as a research aircraft to test alternative drive technologies in practice and is constantly being developed further. With a hybrid-electric powertrain, a new range record for small electric aircraft was set in 2022 with a flight over 2004 km. In the current battery-electric version, the advantages of electric aircraft towing are being investigated. Equipped with a 100 kW electric motor, gliders with a mass of up to 750 kg can be towed.
