While flying a Schweizer 1-34 over San Francisco Bay, I noticed that the aircraft would pilot itself in a spiral, apparently quite stably. This talk follows up that observation. I discuss why the effect might be expected, and present videos showing it from several flights in different aircraft, powered and unpowered. I would like to start a group to investigate and publicise it, with the aim of getting it into the repertoire of every pilot in the world.
