Benign / Graveyard Spirals

Saturday 04/25/2026
10:00 am - 11:00 am
Conference Center East, Room Rom

While flying a Schweizer 1-34 glider over San Francisco Bay, I noticed that the aircraft would pilot itself in a spiral, apparently quite stably. This talk stems from that observation. I discuss why the effect might be expected, and present videos showing it from several flights in different aircraft, powered and unpowered. I would like to further investigate and publicise it, with the aim of getting it into the repertoire of every pilot in the world.
