Tremendous amounts of research and funding is required for developing future battery electric and hydrogen aircraft, but also the currently available electric aircraft can be used for research and optimization of operations. Battery degradation limits the flight mission and poses high costs to users. The degradation rate is dependent on many factors, of which one of them is the discharge rate. Research into Reduced Power Take-Off operations at Royal NLR – Netherlands Aerospace Center investigates the relation between reduced power and battery health. A battery model is being built within ‘Project DEPART’, based on real world data in an operational flight school environment, in collaboration with E-Flight Academy at Teuge Airport (EHTE). This presentation aims to cover the rational, set-up, progress and some of the findings of this research project.
