About me

Scott Severen holds a US private pilot certificate with more than 2,000 hours flying general aviation, light sport, and non-powered craft, including experience as a conformance and test pilot for ultralight and light sport aircraft. He was charter member of FAA's Part 103 Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee (ARAC), which produced the Sport Pilot and Light Sport Aircraft regulations of 2004. He served as president of TEAM Aircraft, director and interim president of the United States Ultralight Association (USUA). He also volunteered with the EAA Ultralight and Light-Sport Aircraft Council from 2014 to 2021. Scott led the compliance effort for the first American-designed SLSA certification and the industry's first completed ASTM SLSA audit. He oversaw certification projects for Canadian Advanced Ultralight Aeroplanes (AULA) under TP 10141 standard and German BFU 95 requirements. He is a voting member of ASTM International Committees F37 (Light Sport Aircraft) and F44 (General Aviation Aircraft) and sits of the ASTM F37 Executive Committee. He has directed LAMA recognized FAA Part 103 Ultralight Technical Standards Committees to review compliance with Ultralight regulations.
